I watched the debate last night. Salahudin was outstanding and he carried himself well for PAS. I was expecting someone from PAS to be wearing a turban with a janggut. But looking at him debating last night, he could easily be passed off as a mild mannered, articulate and knowledgeable gentleman with western attire.
He asked Shahrir all the pertinent points but it was Shahrir who was putar-belit. He did not answer the pertinent points raised on the secret Petronas accounts, using of the windfall oil revenue and involvement of all parties including NGOs to deliberate the oil issues for the mid and long term. Instead, he side-step these issues and touched the accounts being audited and therefore credible (in the first place nobody question on whether Petronas's accounts are credible; only that it was not revealed)and the oil subsidy has been used for the citizens (nobody denied it was used for the citizens; issue was why Govt cannot maintain subsidy because of the windfall revenue earned by Petronas).
He also delivered a sarcastic lecture of what is revenue and profit (putar belit again) as if Salahuddin don't know the difference and anyway that was not the gist of what Salahuddin wanted to highlight. The other 2 gentlemen were a total disappointment. Instead of questioning Shahrir, they were questioning Salahuddin instead and asking leading questions (like Anwar's promise to reduce petrol price) so that Shahrir can have an opportunity to criticise the oppositions. Anyway, Salahuddin shot back by saying the 2 previous ex-finance ministers(Mahathir and Anwar)had a common opinion that the raising of oil prices is wrong. The political analyst there was even worst - instead of asking Shahrir, he asked Salahuddin why he did not provide the solution. Without any accounts of Petronas and involvement of the oppositions in the decision to raise the oil price, how could he offered the solution? Stupid fella, this BN lap-dog!
I more I watched Shahrir debate, I more I liken him to a snake - twisting, turning and avoiding pertinent issues. He doesn't come across convincing the viewers last night why the citizens should be treated as outsiders and having to pay market prices for petrol when Petronas is enjoying all these windfall revenue!

Pengirim SMS 'debat harga minyak RTM1' maki kerajaan
Wan Nordin Wan Yaacob Wed Jun 11, 08 9:24:02 am MYT

- mks. _
